DisAbuse Research

What happens if a victim of bullying is a young person with special needs or physical disabilities? How much do we know about this phenomenon? Why is a young person with special needs or physical disabilities more likely to be a victim of bullying than others?

The objective of Project DisAbuse is to develop and test new interactive educational programmes for experts and educators addressing how to contrast and prevent bullying with particular attention to students with special needs. The programmes promote the acquisition of new competences and new models for inclusive socialisation, involving both the educators and students with special needs.

The first project activity was to analyse existing research on bullying involving individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEN/D). The Research Report, which is now available on-line, begins with a question: “What information, such as manuals and publications, exists in different countries on bullying and disability, on children, young men and women and adults?”

Research on the existing literature in each partner country (Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain) was conducted by analysing the same sample of publications (research, academic, legal, political) and good practices.

The report is available on the DisAbuse website: http://disabuse.eu/pt/node/335
