Hackathon Day Two

Hackathon Day Two

Hackathon Day Two

Teresa, Valentina, Sara and Giada from Team Binary Girls are developing a game for young children about animals.

At the next table, the four girls from Team The Developers are creating a game on bullying, but they also already have another idea ready.

The FabMakers Group is the largest. Vanessa, Martina, Lucia, Giulia and Carmen are working on a historical theme: the seven kings of Rome.

The all-female hackathon involves 22 teams from the schools of Naples and Rome at work in the Phyrtual Innovation Gym for the Coding Girls final coding marathon, which is meant to bring young women closer to technology (see news: Coding and Technology).

The coding marathon addresses young women aged 13 and above who are interested in new technology to join in teams and have fun by developing a game with Scratch … but not only.

In order to overcome gender stereotypes and attract young women to a career in coding, Coding Girls allows young students to experiment with the use of new technology and learn about positive models that can be emulated [see news: Hackathon Coaches].

Today and tomorrow, younger and older female students will be at work with Scratch, a free programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. Scratch, in fact, is a simple and fun way to create interactive stories, games and cartoons and share them on the web.

This morning, after the last coding touches, the teams will explain their projects to all the other participants. This will be followed by the presentation of awards to the three most original, efficient and innovative ideas.
