Project Europa 2020 developed by the Istituto Comprensivo Laura Lanza Baronessa in Carini and coordinated by Emanuela Leto, will participate in the 8th edition of the Global Junior Challenge.

The project aims to increase the basic skills of students in an area characterized by socio-cultural and economic hardships: the Carini P.E.E.P neighbourhood in the suburbs of Palermo. The project will provide students with innovative strategies and educational methodologies to promote the school’s excellences, as well as provide adequate tools necessary that are currently lacking and strengthen basic skills listed in the EU2020 Strategy.

In particular, the project will address IT and linguistic skills, especially English, and the competences required for active European citizenship. Moreover, the flexibility of the project will promote inclusive didactics for students with disabilities.

The Europa 2020 Didactic Model is based on the use of an Apple iPad Mini, e-books and regular textbooks, the virtual Edmodo Platform, self-evaluation texts, open learning objects and didactic software.

The project, which has involved 10 teachers and 23 students aged 11-15, still needs to overcome school barriers, gaining more spaces, a scheduled organisation and further funding.
