JumPC experimentation underway in the primary schools of Rome, Turin and Palermo

Press Conference
Monday, 20 aprile 2009, 10.45 am
196° Circolo didattico Walt Disney – plesso Cardinal Massaia

Via Rina De Liguoro, 50 - 00139 Rome

The Press conference features the participation of Tullio De Mauro, President of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, Dario Bucci, General Manager of Intel Italia & Switzerland and Antonio Masenza, President of Olidata.

Coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of Intel and Olidata, the 196° Circolo di didattico and the Fratelli Cervi Schools in Rome have begun - as of the current school year - the didactic experimentation of the portable JumPC netbook.

Every student has received a JumPc, a special computer designed especially for children between the ages of 6 and 12, to use during class work and for homework.

The netbook is the size of a small folder and is very light (less than 1 kg.) but robust. It is designed to survive falls, the keyboard is waterproof and the Internet connection is wireless. The netbook is provided with a suite of software and other pre-installed educational programmes.

The JumPc allows any classroom to be instantaneously transformed into an interactive multimedia laboratory. The computers, which also have a webcam, are networked and the teacher can use a dedicated software programme to follow and custom tailor the work for each young student.
