How to Raise a Machine?

bestbot_logo.jpg

Everything around can be animated come see what happens when you touch an object! All of a sudden, you will be surrounded by hyper-objects reacting in a variety of manners.

It’s the Wandbot: one of the many robots that will be presented at the fourth edition of RomeCup 2010 that will be held in Rome (March 18-21).

During the first day of the event, the exhibition area will be animated by universities, research centres, agencies and schools exhibiting the most innovative and original robotic applications, ranging from medical and rehabilitative machines to didactic/entertainment robots.

The RomeCup will also host the official selections for Italian schools aiming to participate in the 2010 World Robotics Championship that will be held in Singapore as well as the Mediterranean University Meet.

Wandbot is a game that uses persuasive technology to improve the development of new ludic scenarios in which the user can improve his or her cognitive, motor and social skills. Prof. Orazio Miglino from the Laboratory of Natural and Artificial Cognition (NAC) Department of Relational Science at the Federico II University of Naples will present the game.

Listen to Elisa Amorelli speak to Angelo Rega, a NAC research, on Skype:

The National Institute for Cognition Science and Technology (ISTC) and the National Research Council (CNR) will present BestBot, a new game prototype. Unlike in traditional games, BestBot is not controlled directly by a subject, but rather plays the role of a teacher and “raises” a machine. BestBot was developed in collaboration with the LARAL Institute, directed by Stefano Nolfi.
