RAI Seniors on the Internet

DSCN2526.JPG

Just down the road from the first headquarters of RAI in Rome, the Liceo Classico Terenzio Mamiani, is holding a special Grandparents on the Internet course for RAI pensioners enrolled in the Raisenior Association.

More than 100 applications were received; now, the first 12 students, will be tutored by four students, coordinated by Prof. Daniela Ciccotti.

Ana Lain recorded the impressions of various participants:

Luigi Pierelli, President Rai Senior, is very grateful to the school and its Headmaster, Tiziana Sallusti, for having organized this important initiative.

Daniela Ciccotti coordinates the Grandparents on the Internet Project.

Ms. Concetta is enthusiastic about going back to school, the same one that was attended by her son. She can’t wait to become an expert and serve as a digial volunteer.

Rossana retired from RAI before computers became ubiquitous in the workplace. Rosaria, the wife of a RAI employee, just loves the course. Gianna only knew how to use Word, while Donatella just knew how to use a couple of technical applications. Carlo says he is “at page one,” while Oliva, a housewife, firmly believes that she will finally learn how to use a computer thanks to her tutor.

After a long career in human resources, a new 76-year-old student confesses that he is fed up of being considere a digital troglodyte by his son. He is a little worried about the very uneven level of preparation displayed by the students. Will the tutors be able to rise to the challenge?

One of the students is actually a teacher at the school: Maria, 51, has a precise objective. She wants to learn how to use a computer and become autonomous.

Luigi, at his second year as a tutor, emphasizes the growing difference amongst the preparation levels of the students.

Giulia and Alessandra find teaching a gratifying and fun experience. And the elder students keep learning ...
