Intergenerational Europe

ABC course - Czech partner-2.JPG

Active ageing and solidarity amongst generations – 7 countries face the challenge with “The Knowledge Volunteers” Project (TKV). On September 21, project partners will meet in Geneva for an interactive roundtable with young volunteers, over sixties, students and teachers.
Project TKV is funded by the EU Grundtvig Programme for Lifelong Learning.

Eurostat forecasts that, by 2050, 30% EU citizens will be 65 or older. In 2010, only 17% of the EU 65-74 year old population used the Internet daily. Nearly two thirds (63,8%) of the population aged 15 and older believes that there are not enough opportunities for the young and elderly to meet and work together.

As part of the European Year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity Amongst Generations, Italy, UK, Greece, Romania, Spainb, the Czech Republic and Switzerland have been collaborating on social and digital inclusion issues. The two-year The Knowledge Volunteers (TKV) Project, developed and promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale as the partnership lead partner, promotes active ageing with the intergenerational learning method and peer learning. Young tutors teach the over sixties to use modern technology and the elder experts tutor their own peers. It’s a vast network of volunteers of all ages that help to share and distribute knowledge. In Italy, the project is sponsored by Intel.

The 7 partners (Fondazione Mondo Digitale, University of Edinburgh, 50plus Hellas, Societatea Romana Pentru Educatie Permanenta, Foundacion Para el Desarollo Infotecnologico de Empresas, Centrum vizualizace a interaktivity vzdělávání Ostrava, International Communication Volunteers) will present the challenges and results reached ata a roundtable that will be held on 21 September 2012 at ore 9.30 am in Geneva at the International Conference Center (rooms 5 and 6 -17 Rue de Varembè, 1202).
