Scampia is often in the Italian news and usually with a negative connotation, but this neighbourhood in the suburbs of Naples is much more than only crime!

On Monday November 19, more than 350 students from the Ferraris school participated in Project Meet No Neet promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Microsoft Italy to fight youth unemployment. The students were enthusiastic about the initiative, collaborated and asked questions to identify solutions to concrete problems.

“Its important that students work on serious issues. This project will catalyse the most dynamic intelligence in the school,” explains headmaster Vincenzo Ciotola.

Annalisa Persico, IT Professor, tells us about the importance of activities that concern the local and social context.

Listen to the interview:

The students’ hobbies and passions have led to a myriad of ideas. There are even those who would like to take a daytrip to Microsoft and learn about how the company works. There are those who wish to learn how to conduct a radio programme to stimulate debates on social issues and involve people. Last but not least, there are those who wish to bring all youth off the street and into school, a safe haven where to stimulate their abilities and discover new talents.
