A Field Trip with 5000 Students

“As you know, all school field trips have been cancelled due to the health emergency and we are doing our best, insofar as possible, to provide your children with an exciting and educational experience akin to a fieldtrip. We have to use our creativity, but we are sure that your children have plenty and our role is only to show them the way. They will enjoy this experience together with 5000 students from around Italy.”

This is how Headmaster Vincenzo De Rosa described the event to the families of students at the “Istituto Comprensivo 2 Massaia di San Giorgio” in Cremano (Naples), one of the schools that will be participating in this two-day on-line field trip to Urbino. The programme is full and simulates all the phases of a true field trip: catching the bus, visiting the city, shopping, dining and sleepover.

CodyTrip 2020/21 has been organised by DIGIT srl, a spin-off of the University of Urbino, with the patronage of Save the Children, Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Grey Panthers. The patronage underlines the meaning and goals of the initiative that has been recognised as useful to contrast educational poverty and promote education for digital citizenship and intergenerational dialogue.

Understanding the importance of the role of families in the success of CodyTrip on-line, Alessandro Bogliolo sent a letter to the families of participating students to explain the meaning of this on-line field trip and how each student can dose the use of digital devices throughout the day.

Alessandro Bogliolo is Professor of Information Processing Systems at the University of Urbino, founder of DIGIT srl, a member of the “Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition” Governing Board and the “Repubblica Digitale” Guidance Committee, as well as Coordinator of the EU CodeWeek. He collaborates with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale on Project Computer Science First.

Have a great trip!
