For Tullio De Mauro

“To promote the understanding of those with linguistic difficulties and from a background of sociocultural deprivation, he created a university magazine entitled “Due Parole” (Two Words) in which his students collected and communicated information and events in an easily comprehensible, but not simplified, manner. With the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, he worked on the democratisation of new technology, which like language and cultural production, must be an opportunity for everyone. His commitment for a “democratic linguistic education” drove him to seek new ways to study, research, contact and promote the many forms of linguistic and cultural diversity, with a particular attention to the ROMA peoples.”

The Movement for Educational Cooperation has chosen to remember Tullio De Mauro, 90 years from his birth, because “the Movement and De Mauro often crossed tracks; we shared a passion for research and education.” In the article, signed by the news desk, De Mauro’s commitment at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is also remembered.
