Coding and Hackathon

The European Code Week has kicked off and starting today Coding Girls will be arriving in a range of schools to inspire female students to pursue technology. The first appointment is at the Istituto tecnico M. Buonarroti [1]in Frascati; then, in the afternoon, it will be the turn of the Liceo J. F. Kennedy [2].

In order to overcome stereotypes and attract young women towards a digital career, Coding Girls Rome-USA [3] provides visibility for positive models, accomplished and active female professionals just like the Girls Who Code [4] coaches and the tutors from the Sapienza University Department of Computer Science [5]. This is a programme that creates concrete opportunities that allow young women to experiment with technology hands-on.

The Coding Girls Rome-USA [3] initiative is promoted by the Italian Semester Presidency [6] of the European Union Council for the European Code Week [7]. It has organised a week of events (October 12-19) entirely dedicated to female primary and secondary school students, also involving female university students and researchers.
