In the Marine Abysses with Octopus

IMG_1244.JPG

The tentacles of a squid seem to move with an infinite degree of freedom. Is it possibleto construct a robot with the same flexibility of movement to reach even the most inaccessible places? The Lampedra [1]robot was developed to analyse the neural mechanisms of vertebrate locomotion and to study alternative solution to improve the performance of artificial locomotion.

On March 16, for the third day of RomeCup 2011 [2] (14-16 March), thanks to the collaboration of Clax Italia [3], Scuola superiore S. Anna di Pisa [4], Università Campus Bio-medico [5] di Roma and the Mediterraneum-Acquario di Roma [6] an aquarium will be installed in piazza del Campidoglio to showcase some types of robotic fish, including Octopus [7]and Lampreda [1].
