"TeleBridge" at Sat Expo Europe

 

The Roman schools participating in the “Digital Bridge, a technological bridge with Cameroon” Project, coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, held a videoconference with their twinned schools in Fontem (Cameroon) as part of ESA's participation in SAT Expo Europe 2010.

The European Space Agency participated in the third edition of SAT Expo Europe, the international show for space services, applications and satellite communications that was held on February 4-6, 2010 at the Rome tradeshow centre.

 

On February 6, during the videoconference with Cameroon at the ESA Stand, Professor Giovanni Allegri will hold a lesson on terrestrial observation systems for the students of Fontem. A delegation of students from Roman schools participating in the Digital Bridge Project will also be present. Digital Bridge is an operative plan for social and digital inclusion for schools in the Region of Lebialem, Municipaliyt of Menji, in Cameroon, financed by the Regione Lazio and coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The Scuole in Rete di Roma (SIR) and the Lebialem Association for Twining of Schools (LATS) implemented the project with the help of the ActNow Alliance.

 

The digital bridge is implemented via a satellite connection provided by ESA and a local wifi system designed to work in the particular local climactic conditions of Lebialem.

 

This is not the first videoconference for the schools of Rome and Lebialem: just over a year ago, on February 2009, the official inauguration of the satellite connection was held with the Lazio Region. A delegation of Roman students visited Fontem to meet their African colleagues and celebrate the peer cooperation.
