The Rome Città Educativa centre for good didactic practices re-opens with the “RomeCup 2012 - Excellence in Robotics in Rome." Italian schools, research centres and companies accept the challenge of technological and social innovation: from remote participation to rehabilitation for elders and from space robots to geminoids with human semblances. The 47 signatories of the National Network Agreement on Educational Robotics will meet to transform robotics into an opportunity for development and growth in Italy. Competitions, prototypes, didactic labs and workshops will be hosted in Rome from March 21 to 23 at the Città Educativa and at the Campidoglio.

The traditional three-in-one formula (competitions, showcase and meeting) will include new didactic laboratories for students of all ages organized by 15 centres of excellence, teachers will be able to attend workshops and the presentation of the first didactic kit for robotics for young students and the Futurobot – Ideas for Robotics of the Future Competition by the Rome Campus Bio-Medico University.

“RomeCup 2012 – Excellence in Robotics in Rome” will be held on March 21-23 at the Rome Città Educativa (via del Quadraro 102) and at the Campidoglio. The event, organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of STMicroelectronics and contributions from Comau Robotics, Enea, Expomed, Expò del Mediterraneo and Nuzoo Robotics, is part of the E-skills Week, an initiative promoted by the EU Commission DG Enterprise & Industry. Edu-Tech is the event media partner.

The competitions amongst Italian schools will be held during the first two-day (10 am - 5 pm). This includes the International City of Rome Robotics Trophy soccer, dance, rescue and explorer categories and the national selections for the Robocup Junior World Robotics Championship soccer and dance-primary categories.

The event will also showcase exhibits excellences from all of Italy, including:Enea, Politecnico di Torino, Università degli studi di Catania e Palermo (dipartimenti di Robotica), Università Politecnica delle Marche, Waseda University di Tokyo, Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Expò del Mediterraneo e Ospedale Gaslini di Genova. Moreover, Expomed will also be present and project videos on marine environmental education: “4d SUB/SCUOLE 2012”.

On March 23, the event will move to the Campidoglio for the final competition phases, the awards ceremony and other great appointments such as the discussion amongst the 47 National Network Agreement on Educational Robotics at the Future of Bio-Robotics Seminar with international experts and the three-way meet featuring NAO Humanoids vs. Seniors vs. Juniors organized by the A. Ruberti IT and Management Engineering Department of the La Sapienza University of Rome.
