Against Femicide

From January 1 to November 14, 2021, there have been 252 homicides, and 103 of these victims were women, 87 of which were killed in the context of families and friends. And sixty of them were killed by their partners or former partners according to the data presented in the most recent weekly bullettin published by the Criminal Analysis Service of the Ministry of Interior’s Department for Public Safety.

On the HuffPost, Alfonso Molina  launched a proposal to float three thousand paper boats down rivers to remember the victims of femicide [see HuffPost, Oct.12].

For the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women we have decided to organise a flash mob with thousands of biodegradable boats floated down the Tiber.

For those of you in Rome, the appointment is on Sunday, November 21 at noon on the banks of the Tiber by the William Kentridge Mural, between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini.

Appointment

  • 12:00 on the banks of the Tiber
  • Access from Piazza Trilussa/Ponte Sisto (the pedestrian bridge)
  • We will provide you with the material necessary to make the biodegradable boats
  • You can dedicate your boat to a victim by writing their name on it
  • Your boat is now ready to sail down the river
