Event in Naples at the ‘Environment and Education Days’ in the Quartieri Spagnoli
What changes in schools when artificial intelligence enters the classroom? What challenges does it pose for teachers and pupils and, above all, which educational issues cannot be delegated to technology?
These are some of the questions at the heart of the event ‘AI and schools: what issues are on the table’, scheduled for Saturday 3 October, from 5 pm to 6 pm, at the Corte dell’Arte, as part of GEA – Environment and Education Days in Naples. Leading the discussion is Delfina Malandrino, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Salerno, in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The discussion will feature Michele Martini, a researcher in the Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at the University of Naples Federico II, and Diomede Mazzone, a teacher at the Gian Battista Vico State Classical High School in Naples. The decision to address artificial intelligence within the GEA framework places this technological issue within a broader reflection on the nature of schooling. The Days were, in fact, conceived as a forum for discussion amongst teachers, headteachers, academics and educational communities to rethink practices, relationships and learning environments, with a particular focus on active teaching methods, participation and listening to children and young people. This is also the perspective through which the Fondazione Mondo Digitale approaches AI in education: not merely learning to use new tools, but questioning how they are changing learning, the role of the teacher, student autonomy and educational responsibility. ‘Putting the issues on the table’ therefore means starting with the questions, even before the solutions. The Education and Environment Days take place at Foqus and EduQa, in the heart of Naples’ Quartieri Spagnoli.
