Becoming Champions

They have just returned to Castellanza, in the Province of Varese, from their mission to Leipzig for the 21st edition of the Robotics World Championships -RoboCup 2016. The eleven students from IIS Cipriano Facchinetti on Team Aurat (an acronym for “Add a Robot to the Table”) are: Davide Anfuso, Gianmario Casula, Mattia Bruno, Valentina Squizzato, Luca Tartaglia, Andrea Cappone, Giacomo Savazzi, Nicholas Colzani, Simone Tognella, Matteo Caon and William Coppola.

Over the four days of competition (June 30-July 3), they won the world championship in the RCJ OnStage Secondary category. Team leader Davide Anfuso is still excited and emotional about their victory as he explains to Fiammetta Castagnini how they reached this success, riding the wave of RomeCup2016, which played a fundamental role in their victory, along with their extraordinary Professor, Loris Pagani.

"Our professor always believed in our capabilities. He’s great. We would have gone nowhere without him. He helped us, supported us and incited us,” explains Davide.

Now, after the championship the twelve team components – 11 students and 1 professor – have started their volunteer activities in hospitals again, where they stage their show to brighten the days of young patients.
