Head, Heart and Hands

For seven years, the Istituto comprensivo Daniele Spada in Sovere, in the Province of Bergamo, based on “schooling without schoolbags” and “educational avantgarde” has been managed by Salvatore Lentini, who is one of the candidates for the “Innovating Administrator” Category at the Global Junior Challenge 2021.

In a short video, Salvatore Lentini underlines why he believes that it “is important to speak about schools and share the daily work that schools in Italy accomplish every day to change our educational models.” He defines his school as an educational community of practice, as a true workshop for research and experimentation.

“Every day, with great enthusiasm and a team of fantastic professors we work to give meaning to schooling … to pursue a dream of a different school model, a more passionate and exciting one, for our children, our adolescents, but also for everyone who has made schooling a part of their life.”

In the long essay on the GJC website, the administrator explains how schools interpret the principles of “Head, Heart and Hand” and how the educational community faced the pandemic.

Remember that the deadline to submit projects and candidatures to the GJC dedicated to Tullio De Mauro has been extended to July 31, 2021 [see news: GJC Deadline Extension].

The 2021 edition is dedicated to the innovative and inclusive use of new technology for quality education during the Covid-19 emergency. Objective 4 of the Agenda 2030 will be addressed in terms of the pandemic experienced by schools worldwide. Schools, students, organisations, start-ups, associations, universities and citizens from around the world can join the call by submitting or presenting a successful project developed during the health emergency that brought together innovation and quality education with inclusion, actively involving families and other local actors [see Regulations].
