“The first She Means Business appointment in Palermo was a great success. It shed light on a number of all-female entrepreneurial activities and introduced us to dozens of women and mothers, as well as successful entrepreneurs,” explains Giusi Messina, Coach for She Means Business, the Facebook Programme that promotes women in enterprise, implemented in Italy in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale [see news: U pani cunzatu].

"I am happy because we managed to overcome the usual stereotype of Sicilian women as a housewife. Today, women in Sicily take care not only of their households, but also direct international-level enterprises that can bring added value to the island.”

Today, Giusi Messina will hold a training session in Agrigento for about 50 women. Over 70 per cent of the participants have already started an entrepreneurial activity in a range of sectors from craftsmanship to tourism. The youngest participant is Federica, a twenty-year-old student, while the most experiences is Teresa (58), an entrepreneur working in the craftsmanship sector.

The training session will be held at the Chamber of Commerce at 3 pm.
