Benedetta, 24 years old, has a degree in European and World Languages and Culture. While she is pursuing her Master’s degree at the e-Campus University, she has chosen to become a digital ambassador for Project Smart for Europe. “It’s an opportunity for me to increase my knowledge of digital tools and share it with others.”

More than one out of every four students in southern Italy enrols at a university outside of their region. Benedetta, instead, who is from Melito di Porto Salvo, a small town in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria, chose to study on-line. Indeed, this is probably the reason that she described her digital skills as “advanced” and feels the need to share them with others.

With Project Smart for Europe, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale provides educational sessions and digital animations to support information and communication sharing activities at the Europe Direct Centre in Reggio Calabria as part of Programme Aper Europe, currently in its 4th edition.

In particular, the project aims to train 50 Europe Direct digital ambassadors for the City of Reggio Calabria. The ambassadors will be of different ages and have a good knowledge of new technology so that they can propagate the multiplier effect of social learning.

By the end of the training session, each ambassador will be capable of training – either proximately or in distance learning – at least 10 peers as “peer digital facilitators.”
