Regenerative Medicine

The muscular-skeletal system, which provides support and defence to our organism, can be attacked by degenerative or traumatological pathologies that often lead to the loss of function tissue. And this has a consequence on our quality of life, especially with elders. There is no efficient clinical treatment for this type of muscular loss. The only solution is the lab production of scaffolds that can regenerate the tissue.

Laura Teodori, Director of Research at the ENEA Diagnostic and Methodological Lab and Monia Vadrucci, ENEA Senior Researcher, speak about Project Smarties  in this interview with Francesca Meini.

Ascolta "Enea: l'ingegneria dei tessuti a RomeCup 2019" su Spreaker.

This innovative method for tissue generation, a native ECM extracellular matrix scaffold, is worked on by a mixed research group that includes, besides ENEA, the Department of Anatomical, Histological, Forensic and Locomotor Sciences at Sapienza University or Rome and the Department of Clinical Science and Translational Medicine at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata.”  The project has won the Regione Lazio Call on “Research Group Projects – Knowledge and Cooperation for a New Development Model.

On the opening day of RomeCup (April 2-5), Monia Vadrucci will participate in the Top Talk on human enhancement.

The ENEA stand in the showcase are at the “Roma Tre” University will also demo an “intelligent t-shirt” that monitors the user’s cardiac beat and respiration, thanks to a new technological application developed in collaboration with the Rome Campus Bio-Medico University. The t-shirt is produced with elastic fibres containing fibre optic sensors that allow clinical tests and the monitoring of sports activities.
