Sea, Art and Science

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 27 (6 pm), Federica Di Carlo’s book entitled We Lost the Sea (published by Maretti) will be presented at the National Gallery for Modern and Contermporary Art. The book is related to the large environmental installation developed in 2018 and hosted by the “Arsenale della Marina Regia” in Palermo [see news: Sea, Light and Atmosphere and Zones of Interference].

The project, promoted by the Sea Authority of the Regione Sicilia and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the patronage of the City of Palermo, Culture Capital 2018, was edited by Simona Brunetti and produced by Snaporazverein.

The publication presents the meeting of two words, arts and science, and the exchange of ideas between the artist and scientists researching the atmosphere and the sea, especially Daniel James Cziczco (Atmospheric Physicist at MIT) and Sandro Carniel (Director of Oceanographic Research at the Polar Science Institute, CNR). Together, they addressed the crucial issues evoked by the installation and the book, such as the earth’s breath, the importance of the sea and its vulnerability to the current climactic conditions.
