Simple Manners

Ninety years from his birth (March 31, 1932), Treccani has dedicated a special edition of "Marginalia" to Tullio De Mauro. The special is edited by Silvana Loiero who gathered contributions on “aspects that were not always well known about his polyhedric personality: his interest in lifelong learning, in teachers in all types of schools, in institutions, in reading and the comprehensibility of texts, in digital tools and data, necessary for research and analyses of Italian society.”

“Scholars, colleagues and friends who shared moments with Tullio De Mauro for academic reasons, events or even fortuitously, have been asked to remember his personality through one single specific aspect of his many interests. Something learned about with or through Tullio and addressing only apparently minor issues that were deeply rooted in his thinking, in his being and in his actions as a scholar, intellectual and politician.”

“Two events, his nomination as Education Minister in Giuliano Amato’s Government in 2000 and his interest in new technology and nomination as President of the Fondazione Gioventù digitale, structure the memrories and stories of Fabio Marsilio, Marco Rossi-Doria, and Mirta Michilli.

Here is Mirta Michilli’s contribution entitle "A Simple-mannered President" (in Italian).
