The Simply Rome Hackathon, organized as part of Project Simple Future, promoted by the “Roma Semplice” Councillorship with the support of Google, took place yesterday at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.

 

The hackathon was won by students from the Liceo Scientifico Vito Volterra in Ciampino (Rome) with "Smarket," an app that improves communication between supermarkets and their clients, who can view all the products on sale, as well as special offers via geo-localization.

 

 

180 students participated in the hackathon in 29 teams. Nearly all the teams arrived at the final pitch: 28 out of 29.

 

Here are all the projects developed at the hackathon with App Inventor:

  • Tutor App – help with bureaucratic procedures in Rome
  • Voto online – to vote from home with an interactive ballot
  • Inside Rome – to help you find local events
  • Blind - a device that control’s walking sticks for the blind
  • Around the City – find out where you are and what’s nearby
  • Il tempo è denaro – involves unemployed youth in park cleaning
  • Ao ce sta n'problema – report urban issues (fallen trees, broken garbage dumpsters, etc.)
  • Ar parco – find parks in Rome
  • Smart City Rome – a game to win discounts on services in Rome, such as transport
  • Green Prize – incentivizes citizens to respect the environment through bonuses
  • Sourcing for School – school orientation app
  • Monuments INF – explore Rome’s monuments on-line
  • Call me nonno – make phone use easier for elders and expedite emergency services
  • Recycle Today – instructions on how to recycle correctly and collection times
  • Smart Roma – useful information on Rome, a hub for a smart city
  • Smarket – improve communication between supermarkets and clients
  • Roma Tour – a guide to Rome’s monuments
  • Wonderlist – look for events and see the weather forecast simultaneously
  • Insta Market Spesa – make purchases on-line from the closest supermarket
  • Trip City Pro – find new local events
  • Sleepy Travel – personal alarm for your stop on public transport thanks to geo-localization
  • Searchild – keep an eye on your children remotely with a bracelet that signals position, heart beat and what is happening around them.
  • Smart Work – a platform for finding/providing small jobs
  • Sesto senso – an alternative input system based on gestures for the blind
  • Roma Intelligente – useful information on Rome, a hub for a smart city
  • Spqr for Rome – find events and how much they cost
  • Disvas – helps disabled individuals locate public transport with special devices
  • Share Wifi – platform for sharing Wi-Fi passwords
