Team Power

The team from the historical Roman Galileo Galilei School, which is in Leipzig to defend its double championship title (Brazil 2014 and China 2015), is a completely new squad [see news Champions’ Take Two]. The SPQR football robot team begins its title defence today in the Soccer Light Weight category at  RoboCup Junior.

"Our team was founded in 2014 when our IT teacher asked us if we wished to participate in Robotics courses,” explain the three students on the Electronics Automation Programme at the school. The team is composed by Enrico Di Claudio (17), Giulia De Iulis (18 ) and Flavio Galasso (17). And no, it’s not a misprint; there is a young woman in the team, too, Giulia, who will participate in her first experience as an electronics expert.

"We do not have a leader," the students point out. "Flavio is the software engineer, Enrico is the hardware engineer, and Giulia is the electronics engineer."

Also the robots that will be used in the competitions are entirely revamped. Manfreus and Salvador have been rebuilt from scratch in the school lab. The team is coached by Paolo Torda, who has transmitted his passion and enthusiasm for robotics to many generations of students who are now either at university or already employed.
