School of Physics

How can we programme an Arduino chipset to detect speed or analyse harmonic motion? How can we measure accelerated motion or the doppler effect with an application or a prototyping board? And how can we use a smartphone to calculate parameters concerning rotation and angular velocity?

In September, the School of Physics with Arduino and Smartphone, the course of secondary school teachers promoted by Sapienza University of Rome in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The School of Physics is a full immersion course for teachers who wish to innovate their didactic activities and integrate them with new technology. In fact, it is possible to integrate the traditional teaching of scientific subjects with coding and the Internet of Things to innovate and perform interesting physics experiments that will attract even the less motivated students.

On the first day, teachers will learn to programme the Arduino chipset and choose the experiment they wish to hold in their class. On day two, after having acquired all necessary materials with a 20-euro budget (the objective, in fact, is to perform accurate measurements at a minimal expense), the teachers will begin developing their idea with the help of coaches and makers. On the third day, the experiment will be conducted and illustrated to other participants.

The course lasts three days and costs €250 (Carta del docente accepted). The fourth edition of School of Physics with Arduino and Tablet will be held on September 6-8 at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in Rome (Via del Quadraro 102).

Interested teachers can pre-register at the following link.

The School is directed by Prof. Giovanni Organtini from the Department of Physics at Sapienza University of Rome.  Dipartimento di Fisica di Sapienza Università di Roma. Maker Matteo Viscogliosi will coordinate activities for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
