United for Work

The fifth edition of Amongst Generations: United for Work kicks off. Two courses (Jan. – Dec. 2020) of the educational programme based on the exchange of knowledge and competences amongst young and elderly are kicking off in two new cities selected by CNA PensionatiUdine in Friuli Venezia Giulia and La Spezia in Liguria. These will be followed by two courses continuing activities started last year in Turin and Bolzano.

Highlights

Twenty over-65s and students from Class II HC will begin their new intergenerational learning adventure on January 22 at 2:00 pm. In December, the students visited the company selected by CNA Pensionati: Samec Automazioni.

The video produced by the students was published on the company’s Facebook page.

Fifteen over-65s from CNA Pensionati and students from Class IV G will return to class on Wednesday, February 5 to start learning how to use computers and smartphones in 10 two-hour morning lessons.

On Wednesday, February 5, the course will also begin for students at IIS Einaudi Chiodo with 15 over-65s.

At the end of the course, the students and elders will participate in a creative session to develop a new product or service idea for their enterprise.

PROJECT PROFILE

The exchange of competences as a cultural accelerator: the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and CNA Pensionati promote intergenerational learning, the value of craftsmanship and the creation of new work opportunities.

Following the success of the first four editions, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale (FMD) and CNA Pensionati are investing once again on the intergenerational learning model. Elders return to school to learn how to reap the opportunities provided by the Internet and new technologies from digital natives. In return, the students learn about the tricks of various crafts and can reinterpret them in a 4.0 context.

The fifth edition of the project involves 40 students and 40 elders in 2 cities in 2 Italian regions: Liguria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

OBJECTIVES

  • Relaunch the human, social and economic capital of the country by allowing young and elders to share knowledge and experiences;
  • Promote and incentivise intergenerational learning;
  • Promote crafts and know-how amongst younger generations;
  • Involve CNA Pensionati members in digital literacy courses;
  • Transform technology into a powerful social tool;
  • Provide young men and women with the opportunity to use their digital competences.

METHODOLOGY

The reference model for the project is the Life Education Model that unites knowledge, competences, fundamental values and behavioural aspects with three learning methods (Lifelong, Life-wide and Life-deep Learning). Activities are based on the intergenerational learning model: students act as digital facilitators for retirees from CNA and introduce them to the Internet and technology. The over-65s provide the students with their profound passion and knowledge of crafts, so that the students can reinterpret them through new technology.

ACTIVITIES

  • SCHOOL MEETINGS

Participating schools hold a course on the use of digital tools (10 two-hour labs) for 15 students and 15 elders. One lesson is entirely dedicated to business models to introduce students to craftsmanship (traditional and digital) and enterprise.

  • COMPANY TOURS

Each course includes two visits to companies or local fab labs. The relation between young and old and technology and crafts are based on the firm belief that creativity, tradition and innovation can create new jobs and opportunities for development for the country.

  • CREATIVE JAM

At the end of the course, all participants join in a final creative session to develop a new product or service idea for a given crafts area or micro-enterprise idea.
