Inclusive Senior Education through Virtual U3A is a 34-month project implemented as part of Programme Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for Adult Education

Inclusive Senior Education through Virtual U3A (ISEV) is a 34-month project implemented as part of Programme Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for Adult Education.

The project aims to make education more accessible to elders by eliminating barriers and adapting educational activities to their needs, so they may continue to learn, independently of their location, health conditions, financial standing and family/social condition.

The “transformative” intergenerational learning model developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale during the course of Projects Grandparents on the Internet, The Knowledge Volunteers, The Italian Makers, and Network of Knowledge Volunteers, will be used in Project ISEV together with the experiences consolidated by the other partners in adult education.

PARTNERS

  • University of Ostrava (OU), Czech Republic
  • Associação de Melhoramentos e Bem Estar Social de Pias (AMBESP), Portugal
  • Fondazione Mondo Digitale (FMD), Italy
  • Associação Rede de Universidades da Terceira Idade (RUTIS) Portugal

The courses and materials have been developed over a semester with course participants and include an on-line platform with multimedia content.

The course, which includes a variety of modules, for a total of 60 hours is organised as follows:

  • 30 hours frontal lessons
  • 30 hours distance learning

Over 300 seniors, 40 in Italy, will be selected to attend the courses. Five of them will become teachers and tutors for the courses and will participate in a week-long training session that will be held in Portugal for the elders and youth selected in other participating countries.

The original methodology includes the active participation of course participants in the preparation and implementation of educational activities and the involvement of the younger generations as tutors to help the elders. The objective is also to provide stimuli and opportunities to modify attitudes between generations and cultures, reinforce a sense of community and promote active citizenship.
