Between real and virtual

Between real and virtual

Webinar for parents on how to raise children who are aware of the digital world. With Rizzoli Education

How can we accompany children and young people in a life that is increasingly intertwined between the physical and digital dimensions? This is the question at the heart of the webinar From real to virtual. Growing up in the dual dimension of digital life, scheduled for Thursday 5 March at 9 p.m., promoted by Rizzoli Education as part of the PariPasso project and produced with the contribution of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

The meeting is also a pilot initiative, designed not only for teachers but specifically for parents, with an evening schedule that facilitates family participation. The aim is to offer concrete tools for understanding how children and adolescents experience the relationship between the online and offline worlds today and to guide them towards a balanced, safe and conscious use of technology.

Living in the “firtual”

The webinar starts from the concept of firtual, the integration between the physical and virtual worlds that now characterises everyday life. For younger people, there is no clear separation between these two planes: relationships, learning, play and socialising develop in a hybrid ecosystem.

For this reason, the task of education cannot be limited to the protection or control of technology, but requires support, dialogue and awareness. Parents are called upon to become true digital mediators, capable of helping their sons and daughters to develop autonomy, critical thinking and responsibility in their use of media.

Objectives of the meeting

During the webinar, tools and reflections will be shared to:

  • recognise the dynamics of the digital world experienced by children and adolescents
  • promote autonomy, balance and critical thinking in the use of technology
  • strengthen the educational role of parents as digital mediators
  • prevent and manage phenomena such as cyberbullying, hostile language and online exclusion

The speakers

Speakers include Nicoletta Vulpetti, an expert in communication and digital wellbeing, and Edel Beckman, a clinical criminologist and victimologist specialising in online violence and digital criminology.

The webinar will be moderated by Francesca Meini, project manager at Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

How to participate

The webinar will take place on Thursday 5 March at 9 p.m.

  • Teachers: you can register via the Rizzoli Education portal and receive a certificate of participation.
  • Parents and families: you can follow the meeting free of charge on the Rizzoli Education YouTube channel, without the need to register.

For further information on these topics, see the contribution by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale published on the Rizzoli Education website: Quando l’IA entra in casa (When AI enters the home), an article that reflects on how intelligent technologies are entering the daily lives of families and how to help children and young people use them consciously.

  • accompany growth in an increasingly “virtual” context

Inside the connected home. Smart devices, AI toys and digital security
Webinar with Rizzoli Education  REGISTER

A journey into the world of connected devices that populate the home, such as voice assistants, smart speakers, consoles, robots and toys with artificial intelligence.

Starting from the concept of virtual – the fusion of physical and virtual that characterises everyday life – we reflect on how to build healthy relationships and responsible digital skills together with our children. A meeting to understand how they work, what data they collect and how to transform them into opportunities for shared learning, avoiding risks of exposure, addiction or loss of control.

Objectives:

  • to recognise the main connected devices and services used in the family environment
  • to understand how domestic AI works and the ethical and privacy implications
  • to discover parental control and media education tools; to learn how to use technology to strengthen parent-child dialogue rather than replace it.
