New Experience AI training session for teachers
How can we help pupils understand not only how artificial intelligence works, but also the potential consequences of its use? And what tools can schools use to address issues such as transparency, data bias, accountability and privacy protection?
Next Monday, 28 September, from 4pm to 6pm, Experience AI’s online training series returns with the webinar “Ethics, creativity and the future of AI in schools”, aimed at teachers at all levels of education.
The session, led by Elisa Chierchiello, a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Turin, and Domenico Signorelli, a trainer at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and an ICT consultant, explores the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence and the role of teachers in guiding young people towards an increasingly critical and informed use of technology.
From the transparency of algorithms to potential biases in data, right through to the new skills required in the world of work, the webinar presents concepts, tools and examples that can be applied in the classroom. Topics covered also include the principles of equity, accountability, transparency, privacy and sustainability, alongside tools for the critical analysis of AI systems, such as model cards and decision trees.
Part of the session will also be dedicated to guidance on the professions of the future, to help students interpret the transformations currently taking place, not merely by using the tools, but by developing the ability to understand them, question them and assess their effects.
The session will conclude with a practical demonstration of the activities offered by Experience AI, featuring resources that teachers can use in the classroom to stimulate critical thinking and introduce pupils to the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence.
The project
The Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS is the Italian partner of the Raspberry Pi Foundation as part of Experience AI, a programme co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind and funded by Google.org.
The project supports teachers and pupils in understanding artificial intelligence through practical and inclusive teaching methods, with a particular focus on the responsible use of technology. The aim is to develop basic and intermediate skills in AI, to encourage ethical and pupil-centred educational practices, and to foster a creative and critical approach to artificial intelligence among young people.
