Digital facilitation month in Rome's municipal districts
The facilitators from the Fondazione Mondo Digitale have already won the hearts of Rome's residents. Margherita Ridolfi and Beatrice Borzi, who were “on duty” on 4 November in the VII Municipal District in Piazza di Cinecittà, were greeted with coffee, pastries and lots of handshakes. ‘Citizens are enthusiastic. They ask us for help mainly to book appointments to renew their identity cards and activate their electronic identity cards (CIE), but also to obtain duplicate certificates, for support in using the Public Digital Identity System (SPID) and to renew their Metrebus cards, which are free for the over-70s,’ says Margherita. ‘This morning we spoke Italian, English, Spanish... and Beatrice even tried her hand at sign language!’
These are the first, all positive, results of Digital Facilitation Month, an initiative involving the Municipalities of Rome to provide digital assistance and training to citizens throughout November. The digital facilitators, coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, are available Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in five municipalities per week.
CIE activation and SPID password changes are the most requested services, according to Giulia Castano, who is “facilitating” this week in the I Municipality, in Via Pietroselli. ‘The flow of people is growing day by day, and we are becoming an increasingly appreciated presence.’
Mauro Serio, from the Municipality II headquarters in Piazza Grecia, has received a wide variety of requests: ‘We start with the CIE, but we also help people apply for other certificates; ours is a comprehensive service.’ “Mrs Beatrice came this morning with her two elderly sisters, who are almost ninety years old, and we helped her make a priority appointment for their identity cards. She was moved because she has to take care of both of them and it is not easy to bring them here to the registry office,” said Gaia Di Leo, who was on duty with Sara Di Foggia on 4 November at the headquarters of the III Municipio, in the Nomentana area. ‘Among the requests we received, Mr Giulio asked us how to extend an existing rental contract, which did not appear to be registered on the Revenue Agency's website. After contacting the Agency, we discovered that the reference number was incorrect and then found what we were looking for in another way.’
