A few months ago, we met Carlotta Malavasi at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym during an exciting workshop that involved teachers and parents in the production of a lapbook, a dynamic and creative folder of content [see news: Studying with Lapbooks].

Now, the “support mom” as Carlotta Malavasi calls herself, is ready for a new challenge: participating in the Global Junior Challenge International Competition with Project QR-CODE Lapbook  INS.I.e M.E. (Inclusive Teaching and Manual Education), born from the collaboration between Il Pettirosso che ride and a year-two class at the Istituto comprensivo Giuseppe Bagnera in Rome.

Carlotta Malavasi hopes that the competition showcase will promote the project and raise awareness of the potential of multimedia lapbooks, integrated with Quick Response Codes. The lapbooks become tools for easily accessible learning for all kinds of students, from foreigners to students with special needs and even adults and less educated elders.

"The union of lapbooks and QR Codes allows the creation of three-dimensional conceptual maps that can be used to make learning fun and easy,” explains Carlotta Malavasi. "The concepts expressed by images with tactile sensations are more easily comprehensible and memorised. QR codes connect them to audio and video files (either from the web or self-produced) that can be used via a simple app on smartphones and tablets."
