It’s the same technical-industrial school in the Nuovo Salario neighbourhood, and the same time as always (Wednesday 3:30 pm), but today’s lesson is something completely new …
The elderly that attend the digital literacy courses organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Telecom Italia, have been invited to a surprise Robotics laboratory!
Three students, Gul, Marta and Gabriel, with the help of Romano Santoro for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, show the elderly the robosoccer players they are preparing for RomeCup 2010, the international robotics competition that will be held in Rome (March 18-20, 2010). The three-day competition will also host the national Italian selections for the Singapore World Robotics Championship and the Humanoid Robots Championship for Mediterranean-country universities and rich exhibition area.
It was an exciting and curious opportunity that allowed the elders to learn how a robot is made and operated from the same students that tutor them on computer basics.
And the appointments continue: in a few days, the tutors will supervise the new Internet corners in the elderly centres to make sure everything is working and that the elderly are doing their “homework”! Then, they will meet at the RomeCup so that the elderly can cheer for their young tutors.
