Elders and Technology

Today, the “Voci del mattino” radio programme hosted by Paolo Salerno on Radio1 Rai, will address the digital divide in Italy.

For a closer look at the relationship between elders and new technology, the radio show host will interview Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which thanks to its experience in Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity and its intergenerational learning model, has taught over 22,000 elders to use a PC and surf the web.

Inspired by the methodology designed for Project Grandparents on the Internet, the FMD manages an entire range of projects that address not only the intergenerational digital divide, but also the social and geographic gaps that exist, for example, between Northern and Southern Italy.

Currently the FMD is managing the two-year "Active Ageing and Solidarity Amongst Generations through Learning and Social Innovation" (ISIS), which involves 30 schools in Southern Italy that act as digital literacy centres for local elders.
