Hospital Robot

The Virtual Reality Contest was won by Project DILO, conceived by Luca Di Lorenzo abnd Lorenzo Tomassi, both of whom are Computer Engineering – Robotics and Automation students at the University of Rome Tor Vergata [see news: Emergency Technology]. This was the third challenge organised by Project Scouting the Future, promoted by the Regione Lazio and organised by Lazio Innova and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, in collaboration with COMAU.

DILO is a robot that performs remote assistance operations in hospital and urban environments. It was designed to improve the safety of health workers during the Covid-19 emergency. DILO allows doctors and nurses to monitor patients at a distance, thanks to a audio-video stream of the environment. The robot is also equipped with sensors to measure temperature, analyse air quality and disinfect surfaces with UV rays and ozone. Other sensors allow the robot to move around safely, avoiding obstacles and collisions.

DILO has a modular design that will allow it to be modified and integrated with new updates.

The winning team received a €1000 award and the opportunity to participate in an acceleration course. Both prizes were provided by Lazio Innova.
