A live news programme was dedicated yesterday to Robotics by Andrea Antoniani and Katia Nobbio. The broadcast featured Prof. Maurizio Petrarca from the Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù in Rome and Engineer Fabrizio Patanè from the Department of IT Engineering and Automation of the Università Sapienza in Rome.
Prof. Petrarca discussed rehabilitative robotics and recounted the case of Anna, a girl who returned to a nearly full use of her arm. The Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù was one of the protagonists at the last edition of the RomeCup 2010, held in Rome from March 18 to 20, where, besides the competitions between robots, the event promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale also provided an exhibition space for excellence in Italian robotics.
From Pinocchio’s nose to a robotic nose that can sniff illnesses (the only existing one in the world created with a special metal called porphin) to dancing robots built by budding scientists from Eboli.
Two other important cases of excellence, present at RomeCup 2010, were interviewed by phone: Prof. Arnaldo D’Amico, Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering - Sensors and Microsystems Group at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and Celestino Rocco, Headmaster of the 2° Circolo didattico di Eboli, the school that won the dance category.
