The digital divide is not a uniquely Italian problem. In Ireland, 66% of youth (16-24) use Internet, while only 18% of the adults (65-74) surfs the web.
In order to remedy this situation, the Irish government has launched a national digital literacy initiative focused on the elderly. The Log On, Learn Project, developed in collaboration with Intel Ireland, was presented in Rome on October 16 together with the seventh edition of the Grandparents on the Internet project. The joint conference was an important milestone in the strengthening of the trans-national alliance and its objectives also thanks to the presence of Intel Italy, a long-standing partner of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
Evelyn Pender, Community Solutions Manager, Intel Ireland, presented the Irish digital literacy plan “Log on, Learn” to the students and teachers of the Itis Armellini school. The projection of slides and the translation provided by Mirta Michilli, allowed everyone to understand Ms. Pender’s address.
