Never Stop Studying

Last Monday (June 28), Radio Rai 1 radio programme Tutti in classe – Everyone in Class – addressed the issue of lifelong learning, a “strategy that is central in Europe, too, and that concerns workers in all sectors, who have been asked to start studying again after the pandemic led to the loss of thousands of jobs. However, there are new ones that await suited and skilled candidates.”

Amongst the stories chosen by the radio programme, there was that of Patricia, 48, who thanks to educational programme Job Digital Lab, promoted with ING Italia, found the courage and resources, in terms of knowledge and skills, to get back into action with a new entrepreneurial project.

During the long lockdown brought about by the pandemic, Patricia was forced to close her Pilates Centre in Catania. Couldn’t she hold remote classes like many others did? “I wanted to reinforce my digital skills and go on-line,” she explains, “but, as I participated in the courses, I had an idea for a new entrepreneurial project.” The idea is related to my husband’s oil and wine business. Patricia wants to create a new line of cosmetics, produced from the waste products of oil and wine production, to distribute locally to hotels. “We are often locked into our comfort zones … instead, I understood that one should always keep up to date! The StartUp Lab allowed me to learn so much, from how to create a business to conducting a crowdfunding campaign.
