Not Just Lazy!

Not Just Lazy!

Not Just Lazy!

They have been defined as lazy, unlucky, shy … they are the generation affected by economic crisis, unemployment, political instability and Internet addiction. It’s Generation Y, the new millennials; a generation that has already collected a wide range of labels, including Millennial Generation, Generation Next or Net Generation.

Nonetheless, when we see them at work in the Officina – New Jobs Workshop, they seem anything but “choosy” as they were infamously described by former Italian Labour Minister Elsa Fornero.

Their curricula tell us they have tried just about everything from beach assistant to waiter, from dog sitter to party organisers, whether they have a Bachelors or a Masters degree. They have rolled up their sleeves and are fighting to understand how to enrich their architecture or archaeology degrees with new strategic knowledge.

The Officina – New Jobs Workshop is a project conceived by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Google to promote digital skills and implement professional training and orientation activities for 10,000 young men and women currently looking for a job. The initiative has been organised with the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Regione Lazio and Roma Capitale.
