Pacman and Robot

This year, the Maker Faire (Rome, Oct. 14-16) will welcome some of the digital ambassadors from the Italian team of Project Make: Learn: Share: Europe. Here is a preview of the projects they created in the fab lab at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.

Nineteen-year-old digital ambassador Emanuele Alfano and two other Roman peers (Maker Alessio Di Brigida and Director Federico Galiè, developed a “robotic slider.” This is a small linear slider that can be used in cinematographic projects to shoot panoramic scenes. The innovative characteristics of the slider is an Arduino-controlled system that only employs electric motors to move the slider, thereby allowing complex manoeuvres, a function that is normally very expensive.

Emanuele Coletta, a fourteen-year-old student and maker, is the youngest ambassador. Together with Emanuele Alfano and a support staff, he produced a Robo-Pacman, inspired by the popular videogame. The game takes place on a 160 x 160 cm play board with coloured blips powered by an Arduino chipset. The ghosts and Pacman are 9 cm robots that will be remotely controlled by Maker Faire visitors to simulate the classic game.

Two more hosts - Leonardo Falanga (17) and Valeria Cagnina (15) – will present the House of Drones.
