The partners are two important Indian foundations with which the Fondazione Mondo Digitale collaborates: the Mitra Mandal Foundation, headed by Krisna Sane, and the Datamation Foundation, founded by Chetan Sharma.
What unites the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and these two foundations are common objectives: reducing the digital divide, social innovation and the creation of an inclusive knowledge society.
The Mitra Mandal Foundation has been creating new employment opportunities and training disadvantages sectors of the population for over ten years. In particular, it deals with young women who live in precarious conditions. The project placed first in the “work” category at the Global Junior Challenge 2000.
The Datamation Foundation also participated in the 2002 and 2004 editions of the GJC. Its President, Chetan Sharma, was a jury member. The Foundation is nationally accredited for the important work it conducts in the ICT sector and for the technological solutions that it develops to meet the Millennium Objectives.
Relations with India are strong. For the second time, Professor Alfonso Molina, Scientific Director of FMD, will travel to India to meet important personalities.
In 2001, during his first trip, he met the Sahariya Tribe, a female cooperative working in recycling. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale uses products developed by these women to support their activities.
From March 31 to April 2, Professor Molina will participate in the International Conference organized at the University of Delhi by the Mitra Mandal Foundation and address collaboration between Rome and Delhi and the initiatives that the two foundations will pursue.
