The 7th edition of the Everyone on the Internet Digital Literacy Week, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, begins today.
This edition involves five major provincial centers (Bologna, Cagliari, Naples, Reggio Calabria and Rome) amongst more than 80 municipalities in 13 Italian regions that beginning today and for one whole week will welcome residents of all ages to discuss the ABC of computers, web navigation and e-gov services.
Thanks to the Network of Knowledge Volunteers, student-tutors, coordinating teachers and experienced elders, the benefits of technology can really reach all citizens.
Just turn to your local school. Even in the smalles towns, like Ficulle in the Province of Terni, with just over 1700 residents, there’s an open school: the l’Istituto comprensivo Alto Orvietano. Or Tremezzo in the Province of Como with just 1260 residents and its open school: the Istituto comprensivo Della Tremezzina.
Twenty-eight schools are participating in Rome, 8 in the Province of Rome and 23 in various municipalities of the Lazio Region. The participating regions are: Abruzzi, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily and Umbria.
The initiative has attracted the participation of 75 upper second degree and 44 first degree schools.
Aspiring digital citizens will be welcomed by over 3000 young tutors, 4000 “digitally-certified” grandparents and 350 teachers coordinating the Grandparents on the Internet Course, the project developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to introduce new technology to over-sixties.
