Project implemented in three schools in the 15th Municipal District of Rome: ITAS C. Antonietti, I.C. Fratelli Cervi and S.M.S.R. Quartararo

Intergenerational learning: the school as the ideal setting for the transmission of the skills required for integration. Project co-funded by the European Union (European fund for the integration of Extra-European citizens – Action 3/2007).
Project duration: September-December 2009

The objective of the project is to promote the integration of foreign minors in Italian schools, to oppose discrimination, and to promote intercultural dialogue in the prospects of a more inclusive social action oriented to both Italian and foreign resident families.
With this scope, the project’s intention is to promote positive action in the schools in the 15th Municipal District (Magliana, Corviale, Trullo), an area with a high-density of immigrants.

The beneficiaries are the most-recently arrived foreign minors attending the participating schools (ITAS "C. Antonietti", C. Fratelli Cervi and S.M.S. R. Quartararo), second-generation students, Italian students, and the parents of the students as well in the context of an integration process that in order to be effective must necessarily involve the respective community in its entirety.

Together with the Eriches 29 social cooperative consortium, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale took part in the call for tenders issued by the Ministry of the Interior (Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration – Central Directorate for Immigration and Political Asylum) for the implementation of projects at local level regarding actions envisioned by the European Fund for the integration of Extra-European citizens 2007-2013.
The project is being implemented with the Il Percorso Cooperative, consultants from KStudio Associato and the three partner schools.

Informatics and new technologies
Each school organizes no. 2 courses in Basic Computer Science of 60-hour duration each with classes of around 20 students. At the end of each course, all the students must take the final exam in order to obtain certification for the informatics skills acquired in accordance with Microsoft standards.

Methods
“Matching” tutor: student - student
“Different” tutor: student - adult
These courses in Italian and Computer science are conducted by Italian-speaking student-tutors (Italian native or non-native Italian speaking, second generation) to adults (parents) who do not speak Italian and other non-Italian speaking students with support of the computer and the online learning platform developed for the purpose.

Teaching activity is complemented by the services of linguistic-cultural mediators for the ethnic backgrounds in question.
