Digital Bridge

A network of schools and associations, in collaboration with the Lazio Region, built a technology bridge and an educational alliance with the Saharawi people and Cameroun

The “Digital Bridge. A technology bridge for the Saharawi people and the Cameroun” project envisions interventions for the e-inclusion of the Saharawi and Cameroun communities.

Activities onsite are conducted by associations identified by Fondazione Mondo Digitale after market research conducted to find some with two fundamental characteristics: detailed knowledge of the territories and documented experience in the international cooperation and training sectors.

Each association is assigned the specific tasks in the project’s operational plan. Relations between the associations working in Cameroun, the Saharawi people, and Fondazione Mondo Digitale are regulated by agreements signed by all parties involved.

The operative plan for the digital and social inclusion of schools in the Lebialem Region and the City of Menji in Cameroun is funded by the Lazio Region coordinated by Fondazione Mondo Digitale, and implemented in the territory by Schools in Network in Rome (SIR) and the Lebialem Association for Twinning of Schools (LATS).
The prime objective is to establish new relations of brotherhood between peoples in the context of interdependence and reciprocal spiritual, cultural, and social enhancement, and economic enrichment. Specific objectives include:
  • Bringing young people to cultural exchange with their counterparts in different nations and cultures, and in particular, reinforcing the intercultural contacts between schools in Lazio and Cameroun;
  • Educating young people to the innovative use of the new ICT technologies in the promotion of rights, the development of active citizenship, and equal opportunities;
  • Creating new jobs in the Lebialem Region, contributing to the reduction of emigration from the countryside to the cities or other nations, while also promoting the insertion of women in the workforce;
  • Enhancing the formulation of new teaching programs with inter-cultural elements;
  • Spreading infrastructures, skills, learning and teaching tools in Cameroun with special attention on sustainability in order to ensure the autonomy of the local communities in management.

The project’s four lines of action are:
  • Technological: acquiring, installing, and starting the operation of infrastructures and equipment for satellite connection and the construction of local networks also for the purposes of collaborative applications.
  • Teaching-education: planning educational programs for the training of technicians, teachers, and students.
  • Educate-inform: teaching and data flow programs that promote inter-school exchange and the creation of a portal for community development.
  • Management: importing all the equipment and clearing it through customs, coordinating the various projects, and organizing the promotional events.
