Live the Internet to the fullest: meeting in Rome with CoReCom Lazio

In Europe, there is growing debate about the relationship between minors and digital technologies, with proposals to limit the use of mobile devices and growing concern about the impact of social networks on the well-being of the younger generation. The data paint a complex picture: in Italy, daily smartphone use among children aged 6-10 has almost doubled in recent years, and among 11- to 13-year-olds, almost one in two already uses social networks, often before the legal age. In this scenario, bans alone are not enough. What is needed instead is a shared educational investment, capable of involving families, schools and the local community, to accompany children and young people in the development of critical, relational and digital citizenship skills. Schools and the educational community can, and must, become spaces for guidance, dialogue and shared responsibility.

With this objective in mind, “Media and minors: a dialogue between generations” was created, an event promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS in collaboration with CoReCom Lazio, open to teachers, parents and grandparents. It is an opportunity for intergenerational discussion that brings together different languages and complementary moments: from reflection with experts on concrete tools, best practices and guidelines for living digitally in an informed way to dialogue between generations.

The meeting is part of the Vivi Internet, al meglio (Live the Internet to the fullest) project, implemented by Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of Google.org, which accompanies students between the ages of 8 and 14, educators and families in the development of skills for safe, responsible and participatory digital citizenship, in line with the main European and national strategic references. The event will conclude with an informal socialising moment to continue the dialogue between generations.
