In the innovative projects “Up to 15 Years Old” Category, we find Project IDEa presented by Arcangelo Pignatone, Professor of Mathematics at the Istituto comprensivo Don Lorenzo Milani in Caltanisetta. For a number of years, now, Prof. Arcangelo has been experimenting with innovative educational scenarios to involve and guide students to plan their future in a simple and fun manner.

At the 2019 edition of the Global Junior Challenge, Prof. Pignatone had presented Project Maker Challenge, which called for the development of prototypes presented as videoclips published on Instagram. The challenge would be won by the video with the most views.

Now, Project IDEa, conceived in the summer of 2020, is ready for the tenth edition of the international challenge. The objective of the project is to experiment with the use of Arduino microcontrollers in integrated digital didactics. “Students simulate prototypes through open platforms and then develop them on-line with the Arduino Kit.”

In January 2021, students had the opportunity to assemble and see their prototypes in action, replicating real devices such as traffic lights with pedestrian crossings and Christmas tree lights.

When innovation, inclusion and fun come together, projects like IDEa see the light. We would like to thank the professor and his students for having once again chosen the Global Junior Challenge to drive the value of education and provide greater visibility to their commitment to develop new teaching techniques.

The deadline for project submissions is July 31, 2021.
