We have decided to use two commonly used Italian slogans to describe the projects for the Maker Faire - “Musica per le mie orecchie” and “Ho il morale sotto le scarpe” – so that we can promote intelligent technology and make it familiar, just like these sayings!

Questa sì che è musica per le mie orecchie!

ONE MAKER BAND

Have you ever been to a concert for wearable drums? At the Maker Faire 2015, you will be able to attend the first concert by a band playing without any instruments! The original system based on the Arduino chipset is connected to four accelerometers attached to the performers’ hands and feet. The chipset decodes the movements of the body parts and a PC with a midi/usb card interprets the signals via 10 MIDI channels, which produced separate sounds for each limb: i.e., the left foot becomes the bass drum, the left foot the hi-hat, the right hand the Charleston and the left hand the crash. The  “One Maker Band” project was selected bt the #Call4Makers from over 1200 project proposals submitted by 65 countries.

Basta con il morale sotto le scarpe… Ora c’è la ricarica!

RECHARGEABLE SHOES

High heels with an extra zing… Perhaps prototypes already existed in the fifteenth century, but they didn’t become popular until the forties as sandals, and then again in the seventies and nineties. Since then, they have come in every shape and style, from ballerinas to sneakers, including invisible heels. And now, for the first time, they have become a source of energy thanks to a dynamo and various other hidden mechanisms. By walking, the foot activates the mechanism that connects to the dynamo; the produced energy is available via a USB port to recharge phones and other mobile devices. The intelligent shoes have been designed by the same team that produced the smart dress presented at the last edition of the Maker: Giada and Susanna.

Maker and Fashion Team: Alessio Di Brigida (maker and Engineering student at Sapienza), Alessio Salvo (maker and designer), Giada Cesario and Susanna Picchiami (former Diaz students, now at the Fashion Academy).
