Education, Inclusion and Development

The Global Junior Challenge (GJC), currently in its 9th edition, rewards innovative projects that employ new technology (Internet, virtual reality, multimedia systems, LMS, etc.) to educate and train young men and women. Promoted from the outset by the City of Rome and organised every two years by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, since 2017, the GJC has been dedicated to the memory of Tullio De Mauro (Torre Annunziata 1932 - Rome 2017), Linguist, Professor emeritus and internationally renowned scholar of education systems.

The GJC is the final event of a series of activities that promote the strategic role of new technology in circulating knowledge, promoting intercultural cooperation, fighting educational poverty and the social divide, and to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The 2019 edition, promoted in collaboration with Erickson, the publishing house and research centre that has been active for over 35 years in didactic innovation and inclusion, is dedicated to Objective 4 of the Agenda 2030: quality education for all.

The Tullio De Mauro Award

Around the world, the general level of education affects the average individual income, the national product and the responsible participation of citizens in the state. Not only is “studying a tool of freedom” (Tullio De Mauro), but it is indispensable – both to society and individuals – to make free and responsible choices and to contribute to the personal development of the community. The “Tullio De Mauro” Award, which is reserved for teachers and school administrators, is presented to innovating teachers who provide qualitative, fair and inclusive education, even through the use of innovative technology, tools and methodologies. Love for one’s profession is the force that propels transformation.

A special session is dedicated to school administrators who have profoundly transformed their school(s) through local and educational community projects and the inclusive use of new technology.

Candidatures of teachers and administrators may be presented by themselves or through nominations by others.

An international jury will select the finalists and decide the winners.

Submit candidatures on-line at www.gjc.it by October 30.
