They had already been awarded at the Heritage Olympics 2013, promoted by Anisa and Miur, now they’re back in the news thanks to the competition organised by Meet no Neet. The Gazzetta del Sud daily reports on their Up Calabria Project in an article entitled Un viaggio virtuale da Scolacium a Mammola (a virtual trip from Scolacium to Mammola).
Social innovation, technology, new professions and crowdfunding are some of the tools employed by Project Meet No Neet to address the issue of young people who neither study nor work. The project, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale together with Microsoft, Roma Capitale and local schools is part of Microsoft’s YouthSpark Programme. Nearly 4500 young people actively participated in the development of innovative entrepreneurial ideas; amongst them, the students from Itis E. Fermi in Catanzaro who developed Project Up Calabria.
Beatrice Viotti, Irina Teti and Matteo Bonacci, coordinated by Prof. Anna Rita Gagliardi received an award at the final event of Meet No Neet that was held last January 17 at the Microsoft Italy headquarters in Peschiera Borromeo (Milan). The students designed a smartphone application for “augemented tourism”. Their slogan is “your third eye” and addreses four sites:
• Squillace superiore and Ancient Scolacium
• The Grangia di Montauro
• Monasterace superiore and Ancient Kaulon
• The town of Mammola and the Santa Barbara Museum (MuSaBa)
Here is what the students had to say: “The project mainly addresses the evolution of the sites and their historical and artistic importance. The objective is to develop an application that will provide youth with a more innovative, dynamic and modern approach that can be enjoyed on site.”
The students have already calculated the necessary budget for the development of the application and the support network. In the meantime, the promotional video is already on-line.
The 20 winning projects of the Meet No Neet Competition will use Phyrtual.org, the first innovation-oriented crowdfunding platform designed and developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, to find the necessary funding.
Project Meet No Neet will continue in 2014 thanks to Microsoft’s YouthSpark Programme.
