New Mental Frameworks

The Milan Digital Week was selected to present Project CO.ME–COde&FraME promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in partnership with ENI to attract young women to scientific culture and invest in school and education as pillars of sustainability. The initiative was presented this morning with the “Science in Movement. New Pink Energy for the Future” live story with researchers, coaches and managers who debated with over 200 young female students to encourage them to pursue their dreams and passions beyond any gender stereotype. Speakers included Roberta Cocco, Digital Transformation and Civic Services Councillor for the City of Milan, and Milena Bertolini, Head Coach of the Italian National Female team.

In order to drive real change, new paradigms – especially personal ones- are fundamental. This is the basic assumption behind Project CO.ME, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in partnership with ENI, which aims to help the new generations  to reframe and invest in technical-scientific education for women to help them contribute to inclusive development and value. A STEAM course will involve 250 young women studying at 10 high schools in the Milan metropolitan area.

The initiative was presented this morning at the Milan Digital Week, with the “Science in Movement. New Pink Energy for the Future.” From research to politics and sports, the event presented the stories of women who have reconciled their lifestyle, professions and values to reach their objectives, byond any gender stereotype. “Competences are transversal. They are never a gender issue, although it is useless to ignore the fact that the value of women is often overlooked. I’d like to say to the 200 young women who are connected today that they can and must decide their future. Anything can happen and they can be the true protagonists of a social and cultural change that is far overdue. Science, innovation and digital tools will be their key to success for the future,” emphasised Roberta Cocco, Digital Transformation and Civic Services Councillor for the City of Milan, during her welcome address.

“After the success of the female team at the World Championships, the image of women playing football has changed. Thanks to their passion, commitment and strong motivation, these girls have conquered our country. And although there still are stereotypes, we have undertaken the right road. The World Championships revealed that football is for everyone. Great results, not only in football, but in any other sport, are fundamental for women. They change public opinion about sports and the collective idea that it is only a male sport,” points out Milena Bertolini, Head Coach of the Italian National Female team.

The project, which began during the lockdown, will continue throughout 2020 with coding and digital manufacturing labs, team-building and problem-solving sessions and meetings with role models to learn about emerging professional profiles with a specific focus on technology as a key to solve our great environmental challenges.

“The historical moment that we are living through has led us to reflect  on the consequences – and not only the economic ones – that the pandemic will have on women. Technology can help us to design creative solutions that reconcile our private and professional lives. It is fundamental to invest in the education of young women and provide them with positive models starting from school,” emphasized Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
